Having a body wrap is still a very popular means to remove inches from your body, but the question that comes to the mind of many people is whether the loss is permanent. In fact, in the past the body wraps that were part of the full body beauty treatment was rumoured to be temporary only until you consumed some liquid. According to those who had tried those methods, it was good for eliminating water weight for an evening out but not much more. Today body wraps vary from a slimming body wrap at a salon to those you can buy and use at home. What Is a Body Wrap?Originally a body wrap consisted of wrapping the body tightly in Ace bandages or plastic wrap in order to cause a loss of weight through the process of vasodilation. Many claimed that these body wraps only created the sensation of weight loss and that once they consumed any kind of liquid, the weight returned. It was viewed by many as a temporary solution such as needing to fit into an outfit for a wedding or other special occasion. Today, however, you are more likely to find a body wrap consisting of a treatment where you are covered with a body mask and wrapped for 20 minutes so that you remain warm. The mask will likely contain algae, seaweed, mud, clay, and lotion or cream. The mask is then rinsed off and lotion is applied to the body. This treatment is sometimes referred to as a body cocoon or body mask. Benefits of a Body Wrap The type of ingredients included in each body wrap shows you the benefits for that particular treatment. For example, body wraps using algae, seaweed, and mud or clay are detoxification treatments intended to remove toxins from the body through the process of metabolic stimulation. On the other hand, body wraps that are intended to soften the skin will contain shea butter and rich lotions. Before you choose the type of body wrap you want, you want to decide what results you are looking to accomplish. Performing the Body Wrap Treatment Often the first step in a body wrap is exfoliation with dry brushing or a salt scrub. During this part of the treatment, you will lie down on whatever surface will later become your wrap. In many cases this is plastic or Mylar, but it may also be sheets or towels. Some people prefer to have a body wrap performed by a message therapist since they tend to incorporate massage techniques as they apply the product thus providing you with the benefits of both massage therapy and a body wrap. After the product is applied to your skin, you are wrapped in order to stay warm as the product remains for about twenty minutes. The therapist may leave the room during this time or he/she may stay and give you a scalp massage while you wait. You are then unwrapped so that the mask can be removed. You may either jump in the shower or the therapists will use a handheld shower to loosen the mask so it can be removed. After you dry off, the therapist will probably apply a moisturizer to your skin. Facts You Should Know about a Body Wrap
