Everyone is always in a hurry to lose weight, but how well do quick weight loss programs work? One of the most important reasons is that permanent weight loss requires a change in your lifestyle which quick weight loss does not provide. Without a change in lifestyle, the weight you lose will come right back. Changing your lifestyleChanging your lifestyle means you have to do several things in order to maintain your weight loss:
Learn to Eat Differently If you are overweight, you obviously are not eating properly. The first thing you need to do is learn to eat healthier foods such as fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. You also need to reduce the amount of fats and carbohydrates you consume in your diet, substituting low-glycemic carbohydrates for the high-glycemic variety that turns into sugar. That means eliminating things such as white bread, white rice, white flour, and pasta made with white flour (there is now healthy pasta made from whole wheat instead of white flour). Exercise Regularly Those who are overweight do not customarily exercise, at least not on a regular basis. It's important to supplement weight loss with exercise in order for you to boost your metabolism in order to burn the calories. The key to weight loss is to burn more calories than you consume- easy enough, you think. During exercise the metabolism speeds up in order to burn the calories that your body consumed. As you lose weight and exercise, you build lean muscle mass, which burns calories at a faster rate than fat. Therefore, the more lean muscle mass you have, the faster you burn calories. If you aren't fond of lifting weights and other resistance exercises, you don't need to do those to increase the metabolism. However, a combination of aerobic and resistance exercises is recommended for optimum weight loss. While aerobic exercises speed the metabolism, resistance exercises build lean muscle mass. Drink at least eight glasses of water daily Your body needs replenishment of water for good health and to maintain weight. Failure to replace old water with fresh water daily can cause edema. Lack of fresh water can also cause other illnesses including kidney and bladder problems. How does that relate to fast weight loss programs? In most fast weight loss programs, you are losing only water weight and nothing more. Remember, our bodies are comprised of 2/3 water, so if we attempt to lose weight quickly, we will only lose water. Thus, when we begin eating again after losing the weight, it will begin to return quickly. It is impossible to lose water weight without losing fat and maintain the weight loss. In order to maintain weight loss, you must build lean muscle mass, which you can only do with a combination of eating healthy, exercising, and drinking plenty of water. In addition, you want to lose weight slowly, as you develop lifestyle changes that will help you keep the weight off. Do not be fooled by products that claim they will burn the fat off instantly, overnight, or any other time. The only way to burn fat is to eat the proper combination of protein and carbohydrates combined with exercise. With your weight loss program, strive for a weight loss of no more than about one kilogram per week. It may take longer to lose weight, but you will keep it off if you continue with the lifestyle changes you developed. It is not important how quickly you lose the weight but in making changes so you can keep maintain the weight loss and have a healthy body. Trust that you found this weight loss article useful.
