Ketogenic Diets
Have Epilepsy Or Just Want To Lose Weight?

Ketogenic Diets may just be what you are looking for in a diet. This diet is high in protein and fat and very low carbohydrates. It is made to force your body into ketosis, which means you body is powered by ketones rather then glucose.
Ketogenic Diets may be great for many people, but is definitely not something for anyone and everyone out there to try. When you cut out or reduce carbohydrates it can lead to other problems such as: poor kidney and liver function.
Some people feel considerably tired during the first few weeks of being on the diet. People with epilepsy have been using this type of diet for years with great results.
While on this diet it is vital to be monitored. There are a lot of people that have chosen to stop the Ketogenic Diets because of how tired they felt and other difficulties that they came across. I am one of these people. I found it far too hard to be on a diet so strict and constantly feel fatigued. I was trying to lose some weight and wasn’t dealing with epilepsy, so the weight loss factor was the big deal to me.
Anyhow, while I was on the diet for just a few weeks, I started feeling like couldn’t function like normal. I had to stop and take breaks constantly because I just felt so weak. Finally after week number four, I had had enough. It just wasn’t worth it anymore. I didn’t want to be a virtual zombie anymore.
When I had first asked my doctor about the diet and all it required, she told me that she really didn’t see a reason to go as far as trying a diet like it, but she couldn’t really stop me from making the attempt.
On my return visit after I had ended the diet, she told me that she knows so many people that suffer from epilepsy and only a very few that she knew could stay on the diet for an extended period of time.
The Ketogenic Diets do work for some, but as I stated they are not for everyone. I had to learn that the hard way. It was worth the try, but I did fail the diet, and honestly I just didn’t think it was worth suffering through more then I needed to just drop some weight.
I guess if you are epileptic or really just need to lose weight, I can’t say if this diet will work for you. If you are willing to make a lot of sacrifices and risk feeling rundown and tired constantly, then I guess I would say go for it.
The Ketogenic Diets are clearly stated as they are. I mean you may or may not get the results you seek. It all depends on the person and how far they are willing to go to lose weight or keep their epilepsy under control.
I am not unhappy that I tried the diet, but in the end it just wasn’t the best possible choice for me.
