Lactose Intolerance Diet
Can You Really Enjoy Living Dairy Free?

When you have Lactose Intolerance it can be hard to find a diet that works with both your needs and you wants. I noticed that I had to really change all my eating habits. Not only was I giving up milk, but so many other of my favorite foods as well. Depending on how severe your allergy is will make the difference in what you will have to give up.
Some people can tolerate many foods that others get severely ill from. I really wanted to alter my diet so that I would not have to rely on enzyme pills as often. My intolerance has gotten worse over the years and foods that I once could eat under restricted conditions now make me feel horrible.
The first things that had to go were heavy dairy products. No more cows’ milk of any kind. This included processed cheeses, sour cream, and my all time favorite, ice cream.
I would suffer the worst lactose intolerance symptoms when I indulged. I would get horrible cramps and gas that would cause so much pain. Simple foods that included cheeses and butter could send me over the edge at times. I could not even enjoy a quick yogurt in the morning.
I can say I do have it better than many people who cannot even eat foods containing whey, such as crackers and chips. This is when grocery shopping can get even more costly than it already is. I have had to buy so many foods in the Organic section that are lactose free.
The best way to eat right with Lactose Intolerance is to replace all of your dairy with new products. Depending on what you want to eat, you can choose between rice, soy or goat’s milk products.
There are Lactaid products you can choose from as well, but I wanted to stay away from artificial enzymes. All of these products are easy to find, some in the regular grocery store and other in health and whole food stores.
Once you have replaced all your main dairy products you should see a huge improvement. If you still are getting diarrhea, gas, or cramps after eating other dairy containing foods, begin switching those products as well to no whey containing products.
Some people are so much more sensitive than others. I can eat crackers and chips, but had to replace all my butter, cheese, and cottage cheese with goat’s milk and soy varieties.
I can say that having Lactose Intolerance is not as difficult as it used to be. Many products are in the market today, so I no longer have to go without. I can have ice cream, milk, yogurt, and cheese like everyone else. Mine just has to be dairy-free is all.
I completely recommend this diet for anyone who has any type of dairy sensitivity or intolerance. Not only is the diet healthy and reduces fat, it can allow you to enjoy the foods you once had to give up.
