Low Calorie Diets

Are low calorie diets any good?
Very low calorie diets are all over the Internet. This does
not mean they are in the good choice category for losing weight. The medical community does not endorse most of
these diets I found out.
They do work, but with a very high price tag. I thought it could be a diet to
try for a short amount of time. I found out other wise after spending four weeks on it.
If I had known what would happen I would have never thought it was a smart
idea. All I really wanted to do was lose twenty pounds fast to feel better about myself. I lost more than
that. The first thing I was doing was cutting my calorie intake in half or more. I was
not to take into consideration any type of exercise I was getting at all. The maximum of calories I was aloud to
have with very low calorie diets was 800 per day. This is barely enough to sustain a person who
sleeps all day, let alone a grown adult with a job and active children. I did it anyway. It was not easy. I cut out
all sugars and fats.
All I really ate was fibers, fruits, and vegetables. This was far from easy.
I drank tons of water to not only stay hydrated, but feel full as well. I can honestly say I never felt satisfied
at all and was constantly hungry.
The first few days were the hardest, but after seeing seven pounds gone, I
decided to stick with it. Little did I know that first seven pounds was merely water.
I should have known that very low calorie diets would not be
what I thought. I finish the diet with a total of 37 pounds of loss. I was happy. I was tired, irritable with my
family and work, sick, but skinny. I was not only happy as the diet worked, but that it was over.
Little did I know body had changed. I was starving and my body was in a new
mode of living. It was in survivor mode. Every calorie of those 800 calories I ate was stored for use on my vital
organs. My body was eating itself to stay alive.
The second I went back to actually eating, my body had no idea how to handle
this. It saw the opportunity to store more nutrients for the next starvation period. I had trained my body,
unbeknownst to me, to gain weight.
I ended up gaining back all 37 pounds and an extra ten. Very low calorie diets are not for real weight loss. They can even cause devastating health issues for
many people. When you starve your body, you then have to retrain it to be normal again. This can take weeks to
months and in that time you will gain weight non-stop.
The happiness I felt was met with even more depression at the extra weight I
put back on. If you want to lose weight and stay thin, do it the right way.
