Low Carb Diets
Are Sugars The Cause Of All Weight Gain?

Low Carb Diets are all over the media these days. There is so much talk on how eating high sugar foods are the reason for the world’s obesity issues.
While I can believe it is a contributor, I am not convinced it is the sole problem. People not only indulge on sweets and high starch foods all the time. They also super size all their portions, stretching their stomachs out.
This process is a fast track to becoming over weight. I find that reducing calories along with eating low carb is the best way to work at this type of diet. A friend and I decided to try two versions of this diet and see which one produced the best weight loss.
I had about 15 pound that needed to come off and figured low carb diets could work on that amount. I decided to only eat low carb foods and not reduce my caloric intake at all.
My meals were filled with meats, high fiber fruits and vegetables, and minimum starchy foods. I cut out all refined sugars, such as cookies, cakes, and all other sweets. I was not feeling the love of the scale by day 3. I had only lost about 4 ounces.
Nothing I would call weight loss, as that was more than likely water. I still held strong, eating three meals per day and three snacks. I was careful to be sure I got no more than 300 g of carbs in any given day. By the middle of the second week I had lost 2 pounds. This was wonderful news, yet not as much as I was hoping to lose.
My friend was experiencing a much better result than me with low carb diets. Not only had she cut out the same exact foods I had, she was cutting down the portion sizes as well. We ate the same menu of meals and snacks at the same times each day.
The only difference was her portions were half the size of mine. We both had the same activity level, so exercise was not an issue to consider. She had lost 2 pounds by the end of week one and 5 pounds by the end of week two. She was clearly doing much better than I was, for sure. This was a good indication that carb lowing alone is not the key to losing weight. Adding in lower calorie content was also needed for optimum weight loss.
I totally recommend low carb diets for anyone wanting to lose any amount of weight. However, I do push that you lower your portion sizes as well. This calorie cutting is essential for losing any significant amount of weight in a relatively decent time frame. While you should not go too low on your caloric intake, you should eat how many calories you plan to burn in a day. This will definitely help you get and stay trim.
The best way to know for sure if this diet will work for you is to give it a try for 3 weeks. You should see a weight loss amount of approximately 2 pound per week. If you are not seeing a good loss, make sure you are getting enough exercise for how much you are consuming.
