NutriSystem

Review of the NutriSystem Diet Plan
Here is my
review of the NutriSystem weight loss program. Since I had my
children, I had been unable to lose the weight I had gained. I
had tried every diet in existence and just couldn’t find one
that worked for me, including the original NutriSystem program
that caused many people to develop gallstones because of the
fast weight loss it caused.
I gave up on
that one when I found out they expected me to eat a holiday
dinner with stuffing that had no bread content. After about
three or four months of feeling exhausted, I decided it wasn’t
for me. In spite of that, in desperation, I decided to try the
new program.
The first
thing that totally floored me about the NutriSystem was
the cost – over $300 for 28 days, and I surely needed more than
that. All the same, when I saw that you now supplement the
program with your own fruits, vegetables, and dairy
products,
I thought I’d
try it. I talked to my husband, and he suggested I give it a
couple of months, and if I didn’t see any results, to look into
something else. He had been begging me to lose weight, not
because of any ego on his part, but because he was concerned
about my deteriorating lack of energy and difficulty doing even
small things.
When I got my
first food shipment, I was actually pleased with the amount of
food I was able to eat, a huge difference from the old plan. On
the other hand, on the old plan, you only had to add
vegetables, so adding fruit as well meant you had more
additional food to buy at the store.
Of course,
the key issue was whether it was worth the price. I decided to
try it for 60 days and see what happens. I figured the money I
spent each week on my food was less I had to spend at the
grocery store.
At first the
results were positive—I lost five pounds the first week and
wasn’t hungry, a definite change from the old program. My
family was encouraging, which was positive for college-age boys
who enjoy junk food. I was pleased to find that I lost an
average of fifteen pounds in a month—not too fast and not too
slow. I stayed with the program until I lost the weight I
wanted to lose, taking advantage of their payment plan for
buying the food.
I felt great
after I had lost all of the excess weight—I had more energy
than I had had in years and could walk over a mile a day. I
stayed on the program after my weight loss to wean myself back
to regular food instead of doing it all at once.
Here’s the
down side to this program—because you don’t eat regular food
while you are losing weight, you run the risk of your body not
being able to readjust to real food when you have lost your
weight. Within the first month, I had regained five pounds even
with a transitional maintenance program.
I have to say
the NutriSystem program
works, and it worked for me, but it may not work for everyone
on a long-term basis. It didn’t work for me for the long-term,
only with the initial weight loss. The only good part is that I
had learned to eat less, so I was able to discipline myself to
eat differently in order to keep the weight off.
With
NutriSystem, there is actually more work involved in keeping
the weight off than taking it off because you are not eating
the food you buy at the grocery store.
