Pritikin Diet
Losing Fat The Low Fat, High Carb Way

I decided to look at the Pritikin Diet this time when trying to lose weight. I have not been successful with any diet in the past. Most diets I have tried have been way too restricting.
Counting calories and having to lower them to the point where I could not enjoy a meal was frustrating. I understand that eating the right foods in the right portions was key to weight loss, but I never felt full and the weight never seemed to stay off.
This diet claimed I could eat what I wanted and still lose weight. I had a very hard time believing this at all. I had already been eating what I want, and this is why I need to diet. I was pretty sure eating what you want meant the same thing to me as it did them. I could have been wrong all this time. It would not be the first time.
How the Pritikin Diet works is that you really are not supposed to think of it as a diet at all. It is supposed to be an outline. This outline makes you feel less controlled by your food intake and makes the diet easier to manage in your head. To me, no matter what you called it, it was a controlled way of eating.
Now I am working with the Pritikin Calorie Density Solution. This is where I take the whole calorie content of the entire meal I am eating and make sure that I have combined these so called “low-er” calorie foods with a tiny bit of fat.
The issue with the low-er calorie foods is that they are high in carbohydrates. This can be a major problem. High carbohydrate foods are one of the easiest ways to gain weight, not lose it.
I tried to grasp the concept of the Pritikin Diet, but found that if I was not going to do 3 hours of exercise each day the weight problem would only get worse. I was eating as much as I wanted and most of it was high carb food that can really pack on the pounds. I was not one to exercise at all, and if I did it was not much. This was not working for me in the weight loss category.
I was finding that although I was eating better, I really needed to think about another way to lose weight. Lean meats were not enough when I was hungry every 2 hours from eating high starched meals.
Over all I would have to say that the Pritikin Diet is not the type of diet for me. I cannot eat high carb foods as I wish and be able to lose weight. In fact, most diets on the market are raving about low carb plans and portion size.
If you are not a high impact exercising kind of person, you may want to avoid this diet all together. Eating as much as you want may not give you the look you desire.
