I was told that eating the Prostate Health Diet can help reduce issues that could arise with the prostate later on in life. The prostate is a gland that wraps around the urethra. As men age it grows. This growth can become out of hand and an issue if the prostate gets diseased.

Many doctors say that diet can make a big difference in how the prostate reacts in the future. I figured it is better to be safe than sorry and decided to find out more about this diet.

To my surprise, there are foods that can make you higher risk for an enlarged prostate. While other foods lower your risk and can actually help minimize the symptoms. There is no cure for an enlarged prostate, but there are ways to make living with it better or prevent it from happening.

I was told the more calories I ate the higher risk, especially if I ate a lot of protein. This was a huge surprise for me as I was not aware that high protein diets could have this effect. I am a very active man and enjoy working out so eating many calories and a high protein level was something I was used to.

The Prostate Health Diet says that if I consume more soy based foods and green tea I can help counter act this. These foods contain flavonoids that are used to treat prostate issues. I also learned that apples also contain these as well.

Once I learned what to avoid and what to eat, I found the diet was easy to follow. I did not have to give up my high protein diet, just modify it a bit.

With the Prostate Health Diet I began to enjoy fish more and more. Mackerel and Salmon are two of the best choices with this diet. I made sure to use my calories wisely and fill up on fruits, vegetables, soy based foods, and those containing zinc.

I was now avoiding refined sugars, fatty foods, and those high in cholesterol. This diet also asks the user to either not or reduce smoking, drinking alcohol, especially after dinner, and coffee. While some things were much easier to adjust than others, I figured that it was all worth it in the long run.

I was also told that saw palmetto is a herb that you can get that is believed to inhibit the action of testosterone on the prostate gland. This is an extract or powder you can get from any whole grocer or health food store.

Overall I have found that the Prostate Health Diet has much to offer. Once you adapt to the new foods, you can easily resume your everyday life. Just like every diet today, everything in moderation. For me, the diet is helping me prevent enlargement of the prostate for a lifetime, I hope.
