The Sugar Rush
How Cutting Down Sugar Can Help You Lose Weight
We all hear about the sugar rush each day and how if we
eat too much we will become over weight.
Some people say it is only real sugar that makes you fat.
Others argue that anything with carbohydrates will do it.
The truth is it is how much and how often you eat these high calorie,
sugary treats is what counts.
It is more about stacking sugars and the type of sugars that you consume
that you have to learn.
There are many forms of carbohydrates that contribute to your waist.
Learning which ones to avoid and which ones to indulge in is the magic trick. Just
because it is not sweet does not mean it is not a sugar. You need to know what
foods are high in sugar calories, when it is better to eat one treat than twenty substitutes.
Starch, A Different Type Of
Sugar
Most people do not think about sugar being in
their pasta or potatoes. The fact is it is mostly sugar. Starch is a sugar and is just as fattening as the type in
ice cream or cake. People who eat too many starches tend to find their waistline expanding if they are not careful.
A measly two ounces of spaghetti can have as many as 210 calories in it, with 42 grams of that being sugar. That is
before you add any cheese or sauce.
A medium baked potatoe is just as bad, if not worse. When it comes to these
high sugar foods that seem so innocent, you have to learn how to eat them. When dieting you will want to get low
calorie pastas and only eat them after a day of not eating too many other calories.
In addition, foods higher in fiber are friendlier to eat as it is not
digested and just passes on through. Therefore, if you are going to eat a lot of starch, side dish it with raw or
steamed veggies to keep the calories low.
For The Love Of Fruit
When you are craving that sugar rush and are thinking healthy, fruit comes
straight to mind. While in moderation fruit can be a great alternative to other sugary treats such as cake, candy,
or cookies, sometimes it can be just as bad. This can truly backfire if you eat too much. Fruit is high in sugar
too. If you eat too much you might as well have had that chocolate bar instead.
Often a simple craving of sugar is best relieved by a piece of the actual
candy you want rather than a bag of grapes. If you are a fruit lover or rather have fruit than candy for your diet,
be sure to only eat one cup per sitting. This will keep the sugar calories to a minimum and be better for
you.
The key to avoiding the sugar rush is to know moderation. No diet should
take away all the food that you love. It should just teach you when and how much to eat.
