Using Make Up Properly
Make up should enhance and not change your
features
Most
teenagers are excited about the day they are allowed to wear
make up, but without proper training, they do not accomplish
the purpose for which it is intended. Unfortunately when many
teenagers begin wearing make up, they have a tendency to overdo
it thinking it improves their appearance. What doesn’t always
become part of the training process is telling them or even
women in general that make up should enhance your features
rather than change them.
Use
Correct Shades of Foundation
One of the
mistakes many women make with foundation make up is
buying a shade that is too dark or too light for their
complexion. This is especially true of those who have fair
complexions because they seem to think having a darker
complexion will make them look tanned throughout the year.
Although this may be true if they attend a tanning salon, using
make up to darken your complexion looks unnatural, especially
if you have light blond hair. The colour of your foundation
make up should be as close to the natural tone of your
skin as possible. You want to smooth any imperfections and
cover lines and creases rather than change the entire look of
your face./P>
Eyeliner and Mascara Should Not Be
Obvious
There was a
time when it was acceptable to wear eyeliner that stood out
where you could see it—whites and blues were common as was the
Endora look with thick eyeliner extending from the end of the
eyelid onto the face. The natural look has been more common
over the last couple of decades and is more appealing. Black
eyeliner and mascara for brunettes and redheads and brown for
blondes looks the most natural. The occasional application of a
Navy blue is enhancing as well, but any other colours look
completely unnatural no matter what your hair
colour.
Eye
Shadow Should Be in Earth tones or Pastels
Eye shadow is
one of the areas where many women, especially teens, tend to
overdo it. You will see fair skinned girls wearing dark blue,
purple, and other shades of eye shadow instead of the neutral
colours that make them more appealing. Darker and more
prominent colours may be acceptable for nighttime and formal
occasions but for every day use, you should stay with the earth
tones such as the browns and tans or pastels such as light
blues, pinks, and lavender.
Lip
and Nail Colour
This is
another area that is in need of improvement. Certainly some of
the blues and lavenders are quite appealing, but various shades
of yellows, greens, greys, and other similar colours do not
look appealing on most people. In most cases, coordinating
shades for the lips and nails are the most appealing. Dark reds
do not look good on anyone except those with very dark
complexions such as blacks or Hispanics.
Use
Make Up to Enhance Rather Than Change
If you are
one of the lucky people who has a smooth and beautiful
complexion that does not require any kind of make up, don’t
think you need to do what everyone else does. For the majority
of women who need the added enhancement that make-up provides,
do it in a beautifying and natural way. Choose tones and shades
that bring out your natural beauty rather than using ones that
make it obvious you are wearing make up.
If you aren’t
certain which shades are best for you, check with a cosmetician
or someone who has vast experience. By using tones that bring
out your natural beauty, you will feel better about your
appearance when you spend time matching your eye shadow to your
complexion instead of what you are wearing.
